All I need is to present cover, table of content and then cat body of each file (using less for pages).īefore that I need the working distribution that will boot and run that script. For this embedded project I will change the front-end to the bash script.

FLOPPY DISK EMULATOR CREATE NEW FLOPPY HOW TO
There are a lot of instructions how to make some aspects but mostly redundant, old or oversimplified. When I started this project I did a lot of research and to my surprise there was not a single good tutorial. Asus Eee PC 701SD running FLOPPINUX - Intel Celeron-M 900MHz with 512MB RAM To be fair most of that time was that data loading from the drive. I did not test on real 486 yet as I do not have one but I saw others done similar things and it took around 1 minute. On bare metal modern hardware the only thing that prevent those speeds is the actual speed of a floppy drive. On an emulator it boots almost instantly. This distribution can boot on 486DX PC with 24 MB of ram (did not boot with less using QEMU).

This gives me ~400KB free space to use on any custom software. At the time of writing it uses ~1MB of storage. I created an embedded Linux distribution from scratch. I decided to change that while also make something fun and useful. But even with all of that I did not know much of the underlying principles behind it. I administrate two IBM server that runs Linux. I have now installed it on every computer I have including all Raspberry Pi's and smartphones. I still remember getting those free Live-CD from Canonical. I play with Linux since the first Fedora and Ubuntu came out. 8 min read I use Linux for more than a 7 years as my main OS.Regardless, does anyone know of a resource that will walk you through in formatting a USB for the Akai S2000 USB Floppy Disk Drive Emulator? Hopefully it'll show you what to do once formatted (do you have to load a OS or what.)Įdit: for future reference, looks like I made some progress and got the OS loaded, hopefully the rest isn't too painful. There are a bunch of results on Google but that's the problem, I'm getting too many results.I am seeing some Akai S900/S950 results but many useful for the Akai s2000. Now I have to figure out how to create another one USB and figured out what else I need to do inside Akai to get it up and doing. Problem is the USB that was formatted for it got damaged in storage. I got this in a trade and hated it the first day I literally turned it one for 30 minutes and that was it been in storage every since.was about to give it to Goodwill when I forgot it has MIDI and I could possibly use it with my OT sequencer.
